So who told Cisco that putting a hologram sticker on their boards was going to solve their counterfeit problem? "The fakes didn’t include a holographic sticker, but that didn’t prevent them from being installed and exposes the limitations of this sort of protection" Come on, this is 2020 not 1990, you have to do better than that these days.... https://lnkd.in/gn-ewTW #brandprotection #supplychainsecurity #secureyourproduction #secureyourfactory #counterfeiting #holograms

Quishing is going mainstream.. Still think the QR-Code is an authentication solution? Funny that they call something invented in the 80's modern technology, but the good news is that there are much better options now. In the meantime here is the advice from the author. "My best advice is that any QR code in an email should never be scanned. As for the random QR codes you encounter in the world? Just don't. If you allow your curiosity to get the best of you, you might not enjoy the consequences." https://lnkd.in/g-GFx_xu #anti-counterfeit #supplychainsecurity #diversion #greymarket #fraud #scammers #authentication #cybersecurity

And.. Its delayed again... DSCSA enforcement postponed for another year. They've been trying to implement this since at least 2004.... I wonder if it will ever happen and I wonder who is complaining so much about having to use track and trace on pharmaceuticals? I wrote an article for Securing Industry about these delays and how the solution is no longer fit for purpose back in 2018. And before you start... Blockchain is not the solution.... You can read it here. https://lnkd.in/gd3PgFq https://lnkd.in/gGDdrXiG #anticounterfeiting #antidiversion #brandprotection #supplychainsecurity #trackandtrace #blockchain

Who is still using a QR-Code for their consumer engagement and brand protection efforts? And who will still be scanning them? This attack isn't new, its just being leveraged more broadly now. U.S. Energy Giant Falls Victim to Unprecedented QR Code Phishing Attack Phishing attackers have found a new method to infiltrate their targets. In an unprecedented move, a major U.S. energy company was subjected to a QR code phishing attack that utilized QR codes to bypass traditional email security tools. https://lnkd.in/g_fxRgzT #brandprotection #supplychainsecurity #diversion #greymarket #supplychainintegrity #anticounterfeit

There’s a lot more than just holographic stickers at work in their solution. The blockchain solution that my team build at a Cisco, which is in production today, utilizes this and much more... unfortunately this article only tells about 20% of the story. That said, yes, hologram stickers aren’t enough.
