Chipotle prepares national rollout of RFID for food traceability
[Supply Chain Dive] The restaurant chain is expanding its use of the technology to track ingredients from suppliers in real-time.
Chipotle has asked its suppliers to start tagging all of their products with RFID.
After a successful pilot program in the Chicago area, the restaurant chain is ready to push the use of RFID nationwide, in what could be a first at such a level for dining as an industry.
Along with efficiencies gained by both the suppliers and the restaurants, RFID tagging will help in times where tracing ingredients back to their source is needed for product recalls and other food safety issues.
